What is MAFTA?! More than four years ago, Rosalie Manor formed an alliance with Milwaukee Public Schools - Best Men Program, New Concept Self Development Center, Northcott Neighborhood House and Center for Teaching Entrepreneurship to combat the challenge of teen pregnancy in Milwaukee. Our coalition has served more than 5,000 youth and parents through programs offered in schools, churches, and community centers across Milwaukee. More importantly, it has been very successful in empowering youth to abstain from all high risk activities. In renewing our commitment to combating teen pregnancy as a community, we announced an official name for our coalition: Milwaukee Alliance for Teaching Abstinence (MAFTA)! MAFTA has many exciting projects in store including our new website, www.mafta.info. This interactive website offers information, resources, and support to help youth and parents communicate about and choose abstinence. There are also links to the websites of all the MAFTA organizations. In addition to www.mafta.info, we also launched a citywide social marketing campaign, “High Five for Abstinence.” The campaign kick-off was May 4, which is also the National Teen Pregnancy Prevention Day. So, if you see youth wearing “High Five” buttons, you'll know what they mean! If you have any questions or would like buttons for your youth group, please contact Deb Heffner, Project Coordinator, at (414) 449-2868 ext. 253. We also invite you to visit our website at www.rosaliemanor.org. |
