Families United to Prevent Teen Pregnancy

Families United to Prevent Teen Pregnancy (FUPTP) was developed by our staff in 1986 to help combat the city’s growing teen pregnancy rate.  Along with the program, a curriculum was developed that is based in youth development best practices coupled with risk-reducing activities.  This copyrighted curriculum is nationally recognized and has been used in more than a dozen cities nationwide.

Horizontal Rule

Teenage pregnancy prevention is not one of many far-flung initiatives we provide.  It is our greatest area of concern, passion and commitment:

  • In the past two decades, we have served over 6,000 Milwaukee youth and their families through our teen pregnancy prevention programming.
  • Two-thirds of everyone we come in contact with is served though teen pregnancy prevention programming.
  • We are responsible for providing medically accurate medically accurate information about pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, with our Families United to Prevent Teen Pregnancy curriculum being approved with the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services in 2006.

Horizontal Rule

FUPTP encourages youth to refrain from all high risk activities including sexual activity, drugs/alcohol/tobacco, and participation in other illegal activities.  Through a fun and interactive curriculum presented by trained educators, youth learn life skills that will assist them in making positive decisions.  Some curriculum topics include:

    • Goal setting
    • Decision making
    • Values
    • Increasing self-esteem
    • Building positive relationships
    • Adolescent development
    • Sexually Transmitted Infections
