Supporting Teen Families is a program designed to provide intensive, family-centered services to pregnant and parenting teens and their families across Milwaukee. The goal of the program is to empower teens to develop assets to form safe, healthy families and avoid repeat teen pregnancies. The teen parent is the nucleus of this program with case management and parenting services being offered to the teen mother, her baby, her parent (or another support person), and the father of the baby. This family-centered multigenerational approach has a greater impact on the family as a whole with a greater chance for long-term goal completion, strengthening of the family and reduces child abuses and neglect. Supporting Teen Families began in September, 2005. This program replaces Supporting Today’s Teen Parents, as it provides more intensive case management and includes the entire family, not just the teen mother. Because Supporting Today’s Teen Parents ended in September, 2005, program statistics will remain through the 2005-2006 fiscal year.
