FUPTP was developed in 1986 when our caseworkers who provided home visiting services to teen parents realized that siblings of teen parents could be negatively influenced and become teen parents themselves. FUPTP serves youth between the ages of 12 and 18 years through an after school program in six Milwaukee area schools and through a community-based program during the summer. In addition, approximately 3,000 youth receive classroom presentations on curriculum topics. FUPTP is based on the premise that by promoting primary prevention activities that promote abstinence and a life options approach, FUPTP will reduce the incidence of pregnancy among and improve life opportunities for participating at-risk youth. One of the best ways to lower the teen pregnancy rate is to provide programming for youth that not only educates, but that allows youth to form positive peer groups.FUPTP utilizes a nationally-recognized copyrighted curriculum to promote abstinence until marriage and develop healthy life skills. In addition, Rosalie Manor formed a coalition with other community-based organizations to promote abstinence citywide. One of the key elements of FUPTP are the teen mentors. Mentors, between the ages of 15 to 20 years, are trained and employed to help implement the curriculum by teaching small groups of mentees and they act as positive role models for mentees.
